Personality:
Compared to her brother, Hiei, Yukina is almost in every way different from him. She is shown to be a very sweet, caring, gentle, and honest demon. At the same time, she also is shown to be rather cruel and headstrong. While she hasn’t been shown much throughout her canon, she is shown enough to make an impact in some way.
In her first appearance, it was already clear she is a very strong willed person. When she left the village to find her brother, she was captured for the sake of her to produce tears. Since she knew it was for the purpose to gain money, she resisted torture for quite sometime. One of her captors mentioned how she was cold as ice for not crying. Even when the captor entered her room, she immediately froze the room in ice to show resistance and remained emotionless. Not only that, she knew the dangers of leaving her village. Considering her village is so closed off from the rest of the world, she had no idea what to expect when trying to find her brother. Despite the danger, she still went out regardless.
It should be noted that Yukina, even though she lived in her village for most of her life, is a kind hearted individual. Ice maidens are known to be cold as ice. Even Hiei mentioned how he let them live since it was crueler as they had no life in them. Unlike the other maidens, Yukina cares very deeply about others. The only way she cried during her captivity was over the death of her birds. She also cried and asked Hiei to stop hurting her captor as she didn’t want any more violence. She has told Kuwabara that she didn’t hate humans despite the torture she went through. She is also learning from Genkai in hopes of learning how to improve her healing. Throughout her canon, she hasn’t been shown once to fight even when she has the ability to. Instead, she would much rather focus on healing and helping others. Needless to say, she just wants to help others.
That said, Yukina is also naive and sheltered. While it’s implied she knows a lot more than she lets on, there are a lot of things she doesn’t understand. For one thing, she lived in her village for most of her life, she doesn’t really know much about her world. She is aware of the bloodshed and other gruesome things happening but she has yet to truly see it happen. Even after being tortured, she spent most of her time living with Genkai and the Kazuma family. She even said “Have fun with the birds and the bees!” to Yusuke and Keiko having no idea what she was saying.
Yukina is shown to have a merciless side to her. While it’s rare to anger her, she has expressed to Hiei the real reason why she wanted to find her brother. It was for him to go and kill the other maidens. Considering how they forced her mother’s best friend to kill her brother and her mother committed suicide, she wanted revenge. She knew her brother’s flames could destroy them all. (Of course, by this point, Yukina was aware of who Hiei was as she indirectly called him her brother and gave him her half of the tear gem. However, the last time we saw Yukina, she told him to keep the gem and simply walked off with a smile.)
Abilities:
-Ice Powers: Being an ice maiden, Yukina has the ability to use ice powers if need be. However, since the only time she was shown to use this was when she froze a room, she rarely uses it.
-Healing: Yukina has the ability to heal others. She has been shown multiple times to heal wounds on others and even herself. However, it seems that she can only heal wounds that aren’t too severe. It is through training that she is getting better.
-Ice Gem: Whenever ice maidens cry, their tears produce gems. They are worth a lot of money since ice maidens only cry when they are giving birth. Sadly, Yukina cries often whenever she sees things she cares about getting hurt. For instance, she only cried over the death of her birds when she was tortured and locked up.
-Ice Resistance: She is an ice maiden that used to live in a village covered in ice and snow. Like the other maidens, the cold never bothered her anyway.
